[latest version] |
On to the material. This time, five and a half new volumes were added
with sixteen new adventures. Once again, it has highlights, but I leave
it to you to spot them:
While The Crown of Nagash I is the (short) start of a hopefully
longer adventure, Saga of the Skollvefson Brothers is a prize-winning
tournament adventure. To tell you the truth, I forgot the theme of Under the
Eyes of Solkan, but it wasn't all that bad (that far I do remember).
I am proud to present you with this update the first three installments of
The Knights of Law campaign as well as the follow-up of the KAOS adventure
from update 3.7!
You will get your mouth full of undead in Night of the Walking Dead while
By All the Gods! can be fit smoothly with many home campaigns. The Real
Enemy Within? is also an interesting plot...
I'm not sure if all of you will like Far from the Light or Twilight of the
Earth Mother. Check out Going Home - the new Halfling tournament adventure
from Richard Iorio. For all you Dwarf-lovers, The Halls of Denbar Kdun is
something you should not miss.
Danse Macabre is another good adventure that you should read and play with
your group. Last, The Artist's Loving Touch is a conversion from D&D and
aims for city-based campaigns.
I know that all this is just poor descriptions of the contents, but this
is the editorial fever - you just don't know what to write...excuse me.
With this update I almost emptied my complete incoming queue of finished
and valid adventures... So go back to your keyboards and try harder to
overstrain me with new contributions...
As this update comes only four days after the last one, 'only' six new and
one updated adventure are added:
In Volume XXXI, the complete version Ian Noble's scenario A Cure replaces
an older text where only its first part was published. A definite 'Go-Get-it'.
With The Haunted Mine, those dungeon freaks among us get another chance to
find a glorious death, while the good adventure Midnight at Schloss Anfaund
even provides maps for an old Reikland castle. It was originally written for
publication in White Dwarf magazine back in 1989. GW even opted it but never
used it for some reason... Guess where Danger in Kislev
leads the characters to...
An on-the-road scenario called A Difficult Situation that can be used in
almost any home campaign makes eager for more of the same, while Djinn is
a module for those who like straight-forward plots. Last but not least, Doom
in Delberz needs skillful players (not PCs) who keep being on their toes.
I would like to get more feedback via the comment pages and I guess the authors
would like to get such, too.
And I'm always impressed about the variety of themes, even if not every
single adventure is of top quality. Of course, a couple of outstanding
works can be found this time: Diabolic Pulses, The Dogs of Death, Trouble
With The Natives and A Cure are really tough contenders for the all-time
WFRP Adventure Collection Top Ten works ranking. Following close behind
come classics like Ghost Town, Yojimbo - A Matter of Faith and
Standing at the Gates of Chaos.
I fear that adventures like Kensburg Forever, The Secret of the Maieutic,
Bloody Journey Towards Astra, Light and Shadow or The Woman in Gold (the
latter featuring Aliens) cannot enthuse all readers, though some
of these contain much that can be used in people's home campaign, too.
And as tastes differ, everybody can find something of his taste (except
the hardcore dungeon crawler who doesn't get a sweety this time).
Please note that the update would contain even more adventures if I had the
free time to work on the Collection as I would like to. I'll hope to launch
the next update at a time not too far away.
This update presents five more adventures in three new volumes
(two of them being complete ones).
The Curse of Bleichengrund (volume 27) is a ghost story and Rotting
Lazarus (volume 27) gets you into trouble with several new Chaos
cults - this adventure is pre-set to the The Doomlord of Middenheim
campaign. In The Horror under Parravon (volume 28) Mr. Lepper lifts the secret
of the strange events in that Breton city while The Murder in Mask (volume 28)
has a cult of the Horned Rat making its appearance in Tilea.
The last adventure of this update, Murder Beneath the Oars (volume 29),
is murder mystery story taking place on a river boat.
Last but not least, let me mention that with this update the WFRP Adventure
Collection presents the Pool of Second Chances, some adventure modules
that didn't make it into the Collection but may help other people who look
for inspiration or guidance how not to do it.
Please remember to heavily comment on the adventures.
In fact, there are too many new adventures to give a short
review of each here in this section, so this is left out this
time.
Let me state that I cannot see dungeon adventures anymore for
at least a month or so, because I added loads of them. There
are other types of adventures for you too, of course.
Let me thank all of you who helped to make the WFRP Adventure
Collection concept becoming such a major success. The Collection
is going for the 100st adventure with still a couple of
new scenarios being in the works, lots of translations
being commissioned and so on. And I have a couple of new
ideas for the WFRP Adventure Collection, too. Watch this
web page for more information in the future.
One minor negative comments: Most of you keep ignoring the
comment pages. Is there that few to say about the adventures
of the Collection? I don't hope so.
The web page has been redesigned to look a little better and
to allow better access of the WFRP Adventure Collection documents.
This web page now uses JavaScript and tables. It has been
tested with Netscape Navigator 4.05! Users of other browsers use
this web page at their own risk (until they tell me how to fit
this page with MS browsers, etc.
Although there are five new volumes with many additional adventures for the
Collection, in Volume IX, I added some maps to Sardo's Scales and corrected
some errors from the first installment of the Shattered campaign.
New in this release (Volume XII) are the first four scenarios of the opus
Chaos Ultima Ratio that goes over a total of eight scenarios. The
next few of them are planned to come in update 3.5, so keep your fingers
crossed.
Another full-blown campaign is the excellent and complex one called
Chronicle of the Blood Tears in Volume XIV. I would be very
interested to hear your opinion on this one.
Volume XIII includes another three adventures: Dieter V which features
a submarine, the short and simple The Grand Festival and The Shadow
of Ecate that has great potential and uses material presented in Ken
Rolsten's Realm of Divine Magick.
The adventures included in Volume XV are of different quality. The Lost
Boy is a nice scenario which sends the PC's to an island that holds some
surprises for them, The Bottle has some strength, too, while The
Dwarf's Mission is definitely a weak module. The Other Side and
The Creeping Fungus (Volume XVI) both have some potential as short one-offs,
especially the latter covers a nice idea.
Additionally, I added a new section to this web page to give some advise to
potential contributors and to give short answers for the most frequently
asked questions about the WFRP Adventure Collection.
One adventure had to be removed (Alfred Nunez' Kidnapped! adventure)
because Hogshead Publishing has bought the rights on it. Congratulations
to Alfred.
Twelve new adventures have been added to the collection to make it
an overall number of 32 (!) adventures included in the WFRP Adventure
Collection.
This version is a major update version as many features have been
added and others have changed for your comfort.
First of all, I splitted the huge WFRP Adventure Collection into
several volumes - each of these volumes contain ca. 4 adventures.
This has the big advantage that you do not need to get the whole
Collection once a new version comes out.
Apart from that two adventures were redesigned (added images to
"The Destruction of Waldad", redesigned time table in "Meeting old friends"
to make it fully printable/visible) and one new adventure has been added
to the collection; "Doom of the Doomstones" (DotD) is a campaign setting to
connect the Doomstones campaign with the Castle Drachenfels adventure.
DotD was exclusively written for the WFRP Adventure Collection, so as
far as I know, no internet archive holds this adventure right at the
moment - maybe an extra motivation for you to contribute with your
own material?!
What was new in these versions?
version 3.9 - 04/30/99
This time you caught me... I was so busy that it took me more than
three month to bring forward the next update. Sorry for all the new
contributore whose souls were tortured while waiting to see if their
contribution would make it into the collection. All of you need to
add 1d6 insanity points as a result...
version 3.8 - 01/14/99
I definitely need more contributions!
version 3.7 - 01/10/99
The ball is still rolling. Although my schedule is ever full with tasks
other than maintaining the WFRP Adventure Collection, the contributors
don't get too discouraged. Here come another twelve new scenarios with this
update in almost three complete new volumes.
version 3.6 - 08/27/98
The WFRP Adventure Collection has made it! We crossed the line!
The Collection now holds more than one hundred adventure
modules!!! Thank you to all contributors!
version 3.5 - 08/12/98
This is the biggest update of the WFRP Adventure Collection ever
(until now, of course, but I doubt that I will ever collect that
much material again before releasing a new update). Full ten new
volumes have been added and one volume has been updated for a
total of 38 new adventures in this update only!
version 3.4 - 07/22/98
The WFRP Adventure Collection documents moved to another place.
They are still accessable via this page, so you don't need to
re-bookmark or change anything.
version 3.4 - 07/06/98
This release has been ready for publication for almost five months, but had
been hold back until recently because of problems with limited web space.
Currently steps have been taken to solve these problems, so expect another
update during the summer 1998.
version 3.3a
This release is a bug-fix release only. I used the progressive JPEG format
for the illustrations of the All the Mayor's Men adventure on the
pages 7, 10 and 12 of the Volume XI document (pages 2, 5 and 7 of its
first adventure, respectively). Since GhostScript and GhostView don't have
any problems to view progressive JPEG images in PostScript level II, but
some printers do (especially older ones), I changed standard JPEG illustrations
into this version of volume XI. GhostView / GhostScript view those, too,
but I haven't had the opportunity to print it until 1998. Though I guess
the fix will work. Please send me bug reports if you encounter any problems.
version 3.3
Another full volume (XI) added to the Collection, containing five new adventures:
All the Mayor's Men confronts the players with a mayor's sinister plot.
Strange Starlight and Wild Horses are two plain excuses for the GM to send
the player characters into the very next dungeon.
In A secret in the Manor the players discover the secret of the Von
Karajan family.
Finally, Present Parties is an outline of a post-EiF scenario
once published in Le Grimoire magazine. It is no full scenario und shouldn't
have found its way into the WFRP Adventure Collection, but since several
people sent my own translation from the WFRP archives to me as contribution
and I had some pages to fill anyway, I included it because it is not bad
overall.
version 3.2
I added two full new volumes (IX and X) to the Collection which include
seven new adventures:
Shattered! (part one) is an encounter-rich beginning of a campaign about
the quest for a weapon (volume IX). A Death in the Family (volume IX) is
a short adventure with
pre-generated characters and is fun to play - a typical convention
scenario.
Sardo's Scales (volume IX) has been translated from Danish and found it's way
not by the original author. If anyone knows how to contact him (see reference
at the end of the volume), please let me know.
The Hand of Slaanesh (volume X) and Those Nice Men in Purple Cloaks Would Like
to Kill You (volume X) are two more variants of the "There is a cult in the city, dear Lisa, dear Lisa" theme.
Cut Roots (volume X) deals with an old Witchhunter and his family drama. Throw
together Oedipus and Rambo to get this scenario.
Trouble at the Gloating Boar Inn (volume X) is a murder mystery
and is quite different from
most other adventures in this Collection.
version 3.1a
This is a bugfix release only. In volume VI, the adventure
"Remb'injogu" contained an image on its third page which could cause
certain PostScript printers to stop printing. This has been changed.
Unfortionally, the new image is a bit larger, so the layout of the
whole adventure had to be changed.
I'm just wondering why no one told me about that bug. Are you guys
who have access to it not printing that stuff? Any other serious
bugs haven't been detected by me?
version 3.1
I needed almost one year for this update. During that time, several new
adventures have been written or translated by great people.
To answer any potential requests for that adventure: No, this adventure
is not available anymore. I cannot send it to you. Wait for Hogshead to
publish it and then buy it to support the game.
"Tales from Sylvania" (volume 2) has replaced Alfred Nunez' "Kidnapped!".
The aforementioned one is a vampire adventure based upon "The name of the
rose" by Umberto Ecco. The version included to the Collection is an
enhenced one which is different from that available in the Archives.
The missing map has been added to "The Seed of Evil" to make volume 5
complete.
"Remb'injogu" and "Dance of the Rat" are two parts of a good and original
adventure set in the Southlands (volume 6), while "Sun, Surf, Sea and Samurai"
(volume 6) is founded on the infamous Tetsubo background which had been
outlined several years ago, but was rejected by GW. Tetsubo is now
re-published by a British gaming fanzine called "Carnel". However, that
adventure can also be played without the background material.
However, some illustrations for that adventure are still missing
and are supposed to be included in version 3.2 (fingers crossed).
In "This is not a love story" is a detective story where you're enabled
to play a group of Halflings/Gnomes (volume 7). "Until Dawn" (volume 7)
is build up as a solo adventure where you run for your life.
"A Fly in the Web" (volume 8) and "Trouble at the Mine" (volume 7)
uncover the hideous schemes of the foul ratmen while "The Great Darkness"
is a more classical adventure (volume 7).
In "Mirror of Shadows" another original plot unfolds (volume 7) while
"The Doomlord of Middenheim I - Blue Blooded Rivalry" is the first part
of a camapign set after the events of Empire in Flames.
Last but not least, "A Messenger from the Past" introduces as link between
The Oldenhaller Contract and Shadows over Bogenhafen.
version 3.0
The subscribers (ie. the authors, translators, etc.) have
spoken...hough!
For now, six different volumes are available, the first four of them
being final versions, which will probably stay unchanged forever -
you can get and print them without being anxious whether these documents
will be updated for any reason or not. The fifth volume is in final beta
stadium which means that there are already four adventures in it and that
no new adventures will be added to this specific volume. But one
adventure ("The Seed of Evil") is still missing a map image which will
be added as soon as the author sent it to me. Apart from that, the
fifth volume is complete. The sixth volume comes as Beta 1 version.
Only one adventure is in it by now, and other adventures will being
added whenever I have the time to do it and new entries will be
made by people like you...however, this one adventure in volume six
is complete and can be printed if you like...
Second, I have reduced the font size slightly to pack more adventure
onto each page of the collection. The font is still large enough to
avoid bleeding eyes though.
The usage of a smaller font size resulted in redesigning most adventures
with images in them. Some illustrations moved to other places inside
the text to give a better visual impression.
Also the order in which the adventures appeared has changed!!! This was
necessary to give each volume a size similar to the other volumes.
Two images/maps were added to the adventure "Meeting Old Friends" (volume 4) which
help to make it more playable.
Two more adventures were added to the collection: "The Seed of Evil"
(volume 5) which is a WFRP/WH40K cross-over adventure originally
published in the Italian magazine KAOS, and "A Nights Work" (volume 6) by
Michael Andersen. The version included here is a bit different from
the one posted to the WFRP mailing list and the Warhammer archives.
Those versions are incomplete (as a whole paragrpaph was sucked into the
void of a text editor) while the version found in the collection is
complete.
version 2.9
The type of compression has changed in this version from GNU Zip
to normal ZIP due to many requests.
earlier versions
Please do not ask, I forgot. It's probably too much. You should
get the newest version of it as in the meantime, some adventures
have been re-edited, a lot of new ones were added, etc...
